DTM Championship – Round 8, Barcelona - Preview September 24th 2006
The DTM championship moves to Barcelona for round eight this coming weekend. For the first time ever since 1984, a race will be staged in Spain. Spain will be the 16th country to host a DTM race, including the ITC held in 1995 and 1996. Every year in June, the world of motor sports looks to the world’s famous long distance race – the Le Mans 24 Hours. On the same weekend in June, Porsche again and also competed the equally renown 24 hour race at the Nurburgring. At the Nurburgring, the Porsche 911 GT3 run by the German Manthey Racing team and piloted by Porsche factory drivers Timo Bernhard, Lucas Luhr and Mike Rockenfeller together with former DTM pilot Marcel Tiemann, finished with an overall win and beat the old Nurburgring 24 hours distance record.
